I realize that what I'm about to say probably comes across as extremely bitchy, but.... People who write half ass alt text really annoy me. For example, if you are posting a meme, or an infographic and in the alt text field you just write Infographic or meme on xyz topic, you aren't.... actually doing alt text. It's more like performative alt text. You should describe what is happening, transcribe the text if any, and include things which clarify the point. OK I'm done being grumpy for now!

Yep. Some alt text is so bad - "cat" or "screenshot" - that I'd call it malicious compliance.
@ahimsa_pdx Yes, at least if people don't do it, they are being honest about it. Maybe they don't have time/energy or they just don't care, and hey thats life, and I respect that at least people who don't care are up front about not caring so I can not follow them or boost their content, but this half assed crap is just... it's like being flipped off by someone wearing designer gloves. Like at first it looks stylish but you are still being flipped off.
@Pawpower @ahimsa_pdx I just seen one that's just the MIME type. So things like "image/jpeg". grr
