Hey so uh several of my mutuals keep boosting shit that compares *fascists* to *me* as a way of insulting *the fascists*. And I don't wanna just break off a bunch of mutual connections with no warning, but I also don't have the energy to DM them all and it seems desperately posting and boosting about not using ableism against fascists is not enough. Does anyone have advice? I can't handle seeing everyone who usually has good takes now using me as the worst thing they can compare a fascist to

Okay I think I'm just gonna pin this post so anyone who wonders why we're not moots anymore can see it:
If I unfollowed you, it was probably because you called prominent fascists mentally ill (or narcissists, psychopaths, insane, etc). As someone they all want dead, and as someone who is actually in the group you're assigning them to, this hurts. A lot. It feels like you're saying the only thing worse than a fascist is a disabled person. We're all sick of it, especially from so-called leftists.

Update I might also unfollow people for boosting Harry Potter onto my timeline lmao I don't wanna see that shit and I feel unsafe around people who still proudly spread it

@raphaelmorgan I tried to bring this concept up to my sister (a HS assistant principal) around how her trans students might feel pretty uncomfortable around her and her rampant HP fandom.

She just didn't get it :(

@raphaelmorgan, i say that people who support fascism are mentally ill, but i do not make this claim with any kind of mocking intent. The necessary dehumanization implies not correctly understanding reality, which is psychosis, which is mental illness. But violence and ridicule are not the answer to mental illness.

Other people's reasons might differ, but i do not think that "the only thing worse than a fascist is a disabled person". Really, my reasoning is the opposite; i am trying to show that these people are just blind and deluded -- in Christian terminology, have demons -- but are not evil.

P.S. Yes, i understand that this post was probably not directed at me.

@ach it's a delusion, but it's not a mental illness. Psychosis is not a choice. The delusions that fascists believe in are intentional and take a lot of work. They take pride in the way they ignore reality. It's not the same thing.

@raphaelmorgan, i see no reason to think that mental illness cannot be self-imposed.

The people take pride in ignoring what you consider to be reality and what these people consider to be a lie. As far as these people think, these people are ignoring a lie.

i write from personal experience.

@ach okay yeah I'm not really in the mood for debating whether my mental illnesses that I had no choice but to have are the same as fascism. I'm not going to budge on this, and I'm not going to give you the validation you want that you're the exception to the rule. Or that giving fascists an excuse for their behavior is the right thing to do, literally ever. Because you're not and it's not. Please do not reply to this thread further.
