Ok! I'd like to gather folks for a Signal group for and area - just a casual chat, share, community build, network kinda group.
Super low key, but a place for folks to connect and share, both online and off.
Chat fav restaurants.
Find folks to walk with.
Share some household stuff you don't need.
Connect with others on a project.
Whatever you need. Let's start building meatspace relationships.

☝️this group is open to anybody who wants to connect in the Guelph-ish area for whatever reason.

If you're considering moving to the Guelph area and want explore and connect in advance.
Even if you just want to lurk and watch building - I have leads on at least two physical housing projects that mostly just need to be peopled with the kind of folks who know how to build healthy community.

Things are shifting, it's time to gather the good-hearted people. 💪🧡

☝️yay! I have floated this balloon a few times, and finally got traction.
We've got a bonafide Signal group for anybody in the vaguely Guelph-ish area!

This is region-specific not mastondon-specific, btw. So if you know anyone not on fedi that would still be interested, DM me for a link to share. Open to anyone interested in building local community and connections - very friendly, btw.

@waterlooregion

@elfi yaaaas!
if you need any help/coaching let me know I can boost a call out. I think it's pretty easy.

@vlrny yeah, I just need to get over the initial reticence. Discord is hard enough to keep up with over its constant changes, I miss IRC...

@northernlights I'm sorry, I don't understand the context of your question. What about politics?

@vlrny

I like the idea of your group and was wondering if conversations about politics would also be welcome.

@northernlights hrm... Probably not a lot of politics. This is more the micro-lens of individuals and community connections. Cup o sugar, help yer neighbours kinda vibes. So more on the ground, skill sharing, need sharing, resource sharing. Direct human connections, not so much big picture policy debate stuff (I have access to tonnes of that online already).
Does that help?

@vlrny

Yes, thank you for clarifying! I don't live anywhere near Guelph, but I'll let people know.

It sounds like a great idea and I wish you all the best with it.

@northernlights aw thank you! I appreciate the help w reach. You are also welcome to steal this idea for your own area, or topic focus. I am 100% here for anybody doing community building. 💪🧡
