This seems like a good weekend to have a Studio Ghibli marathon.
•organize a watchparty with friends
•randomly roll through all your favourite movies on your own
•drop lil toot thoughts
•start a discussion about fav characters etc..
Whatever works for you this weekend.
Lets share some joy.

psst pass it on....

☝️I am currently still in stare out the window mode my language center continues to be mostly offline. But when I get tired of trees and ravens I will shift my eyes indoors to something natural and lyrical.

I pretty much judge all movies based on the quality of their sky - which Ghibli movies do you think have the best sky?

@lonelinesscorps

Ok! I have watched
*cough-napped through*
Howl's Moving Castle and The Cat Returns.
Need a vibe shift, switching to DS9...

@vlrny

I have no idea what Dr. Julian Bashir is looking at - did water drip on him? Did he hear a rat in the ceiling? Are the lights flickering in a funky disco sequence?

Enquiring minds want to know!

(Posting this just to make you laugh & in case any enquiring minds want to know the name of 'wazzis face, sexy doctor boi from Deep Space Nine'. 😄 )

@vlrny

I confess, I started watching spirited away last night, wondered what else might be there, switched to keanu reeves movie, point break. Oh, the scenery! Sigh.

@vlrny
I confess, I am not familiar with Ghibli Studio movies. What characterizes them? If new, start where?

@BrambleBearWhuffling @vlrny @lonelinesscorps

Studio Ghibli¹ movies are quirky, gentle animated stories. I've only watched "My neighbour Totoro", "Kiki's delivery service", and "Spirited away"; all stand-alone movies.

¹ Pronunciation: in interviews co-founder of Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki, pronounces it as "Studio Jiburi".
So, "Jibli"-ish, not "gibbly".

@vlrny

I watched Kiki's Delivery Service for the first time in a while, and I just love the part where Kiki spends time hanging out in the cabin with her new artist friend.

@westerling following bc heavy relate vibes on this 💯 opinion

@vlrny @lonelinesscorps I love Porco Rosso and The Wind Rises but maybe best starting point is Totoro?

@vlrny @lonelinesscorps

Good idea.

I saw a few of them.

- Kiki delivery service (cute)
- Castle in the sky (awe inspiring epic)
- Princess Mononoke (such a brilliant piece of political commentary)
- Tales from Earthsea (good)
- The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (got me sobbing)

Which one should i watch next?

@Lily_and_frog @vlrny @lonelinesscorps I am a fan of the first one I ever saw: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. It’s a Topcraft, not Studio Ghibli, film, but written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

@Archergal @Lily_and_frog @lonelinesscorps @vlrny me too, that's the one we watched together last. I think? I also got a Ponyo DVD. Spirited Away was one we could always watch together when one of us needed cheering up, it's still probably our favorite :3 if only for the nostalgia and memories.

@Archergal @vlrny @Lily_and_frog @secretsloth @lonelinesscorps I love them all so much - Castles in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke (even with Gillian Anderson's voice acting), Kiki's Delivery Service, and Spirited Away are among my favorites. I saw but need to rewatch The Boy & The Heron - I availed myself to the Alamo Drafthouse drafts a bit too much.

@Archergal @vlrny @Lily_and_frog @secretsloth @lonelinesscorps Also, for our 27th anniversary - the sculpture year - my husband got me Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro ah, action figures. True love! ❤️

@vlrny I will always be about Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, and Ponyo, with some Princess Mononoke thrown in...

@johncomic @vlrny I still need to get my kid to watch Ponyo with me :3
