Ruth Smith, professor and Graceland College and the wife of Fred M Smith, 3rd prophet of Community of Christ and Joseph Smith Jr. grandson, was very feminist. Love that for her and her family.

she went up to JSIII (2nd prophet, Fred M's Dad) who was officiant of their (surprise) wedding and was like "promise to not ask me to obey in our wedding vows."

JSIII was like "dw. i wasn't going to do that."

love that for both of them.

She also was like, listen I want a daughter, so does Fred, and her name will be Alice, when church members were on her about having a son (bc he would be heir apparent for prophet) and naming him after her husband.

Fred M., called her his bodyguard, as she would literally act as security, looking out for threats and escorting him places. Tho he was like, "what exactly are you gonna do." (paraphrased ofc)

She said it amused him, though sometimes it was a little annoying.

She really got him a protective vest to wear, but he only wore it once due to it being uncomfortable (something about temperature).

She was very into intellectual pursuits and that's something she shared with her husband they bonded over.

She pushed her daughter to be independent and an achiever. She was glad that she wasn't male so that she could forge her own path in life rather than being destined to be President of the Church.

Oh and she's an author! These anecdotes are from a book she wrote (about her husband but a lot of herself is in it).
