I have ME/CFS and I've experienced similar disbelief from others, including doctors, since 1990.

I want to add that "offering psychological support instead of medical care" is not helpful. It is indeed insulting.

If you offer psychological care *in addition to* or *as part of* the overall care then that's fine. But it should never be offered *instead of* medical care.

Maybe this is a misquote by the author? I don't know, but the way it is stated here is wrong.

Psychological support can be very helpful! But it is never a substitute for other medical treatment.
